On Saturday, 8 August 2020, the first Filipino-themed artisan ice cream shop, known locally in Italy as gelateria artigianale, opened at Via Vittorio Veneto 59, Bresso in Milan, Italy. Philippine Consul General Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez joined the Vice Mayor of the Comune of Bresso, Roberto Cristofoli, and Filipino and local patrons at the blessing ceremony led by Fr. Sonny de Armas.
The shop, fully owned and operated by Ms. Anna Liza Peña and her siblings, offers a wide range of homemade ice cream prepared in the traditional Italian way that include favourite Filipino flavours such as ube macapuno, halo-halo, langka, mango, avocado and queso alla Sorbetero, among others. In addition to ice cream, the shop also sells other items such as fruit/ice cream shaks, ice cream cakes and pastries, ice buko and other Filipino ice cream base treats.
The shop is opened from 12:00 noon to 11:00 p.m. from Sunday to Saturday. Home delivery service is also available by phone at 02.3651.8878 and by Facebook messenger at sorbetero.it and Instagram @sorbetero.it.
Sorbetero follows a growing list of businesses in the food sector that are either partly or fully operated by members of the Filipino expatriate community in northern Italy.
