CITIZENSHIP RETENTION AND RE-ACQUISITION

Republic Act No. 9225 or the Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003 grants natural-born Filipinos who have lost their Filipino citizenship through naturalization in a foreign country the opportunity to retain or re-acquire their Filipino citizenship.

The law equally applies to unmarried children below eighteen (18) years of age, whether legitimate, illegitimate, or adopted if they are included in the parent’s petition for reacquisition of Philippine citizenship.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DUAL CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION UNDER RA 9225

FOR ADULT APPLICANTS

1. Original and Three (3) photocopies of PSA-Issued Birth Certificate, IF BORN IN THE PHILIPPINES.
2. Original and Three (3) photocopies of PSA-Issued Report of Birth AND Certificato Di Nascita, IF BORN ABROAD.
3. Original and Three (3) photocopies of PSA-Issued Marriage Certificate/Report of Marriage, IF MARRIED.
4. Original and Three (3) photocopies of PSA-Issued Death Certificate/Report of Death, IF WIDOWED.
5. Original and Three (3) photocopies of the Data Page of Latest Philippine Passport.
6. Two (2) current ID Photos (2 x 2 or Passport Size; White Background).
7. Original and Three (3) photocopies of Italian Passport or Carta D’Identità.
8. Original and Three (3) photocopies of ATTI DI CITTADINANZA issued by the Comune, which shows the DATE OF ACQUISITION of the Foreign Citizenship OR in the absence of Atti Di Cittadinanza, CERTIFICATO STORICO DI CITTADINANZA AND ESTRATTO PER RIASSUNTO DELL ATTO DI NASCITA issued by the Comune, which shows the DATE OF ACQUISITION of the Foreign Citizenship.

9. Payment of Application Fee of €50.00 (payable on the day of the Oath-Taking).

FOR INCLUSION OF A MINOR CHILD (DERIVATIVE)

1. Original and Three (3) photocopies of PSA-Issued Birth Certificate, IF BORN IN THE PHILIPPINES
2. Original and Three (3) photocopies of PSA-Issued Report of Birth AND Certificato Di Nascita, IF BORN ABROAD
3. Original and Three (3) photocopies of the Data Page of Latest Philippine Passport
4. Original and Three (3) photocopies of Italian Passport or Carta D’ Identita
5. Two (2) Current Photos (2 x 2 or Passport Size; White Background)
6. Original and Three (3) photocopies of ATTI DI CITTADINANZA issued by the Comune, which shows the DATE OF ACQUISITION of the Foreign Citizenship OR in the absence of Atti Di Cittadinanza, CERTIFICATO STORICO DI CITTADINANZA AND ESTRATTO PER RIASSUNTO DELL ATTO DI NASCITA issued by the Comune.
7. Payment of the additional fee for a minor child: €25.00 (payable on the day of the Oath-Taking of the Parent/s).

-IMPORTANT: The Report of Birth of the Minor Child has to be filed at the Consulate before the child could be issued a Philippine Passport.
